Matchbook is a web-based gambling and stake swap operator. Even though they don’t boast a rich history like the rest, they’ve shown a successful 12 year presence on the punter field. Perhaps one of their largest claims is that they charge one of the smallest commission amounts in the field. The platform was initially belonging to WSEX which didn’t manage to be successful and was later acquired by Matchbook. We don’t specifically know how this ownership change came to be as matchbook doesn’t reveal any details on the matter.
The operator is fully backed up and functions under the UK Gambling Commission’s body and Alderney Gambling Control Commision. As soon as you hit their website, you are going to see a pretty nice selection of sports categories to bet on featuring football, golf, basketball, rugby and horse racing. American classics like cricket and hockey or ice hockey are also included. The site also features alternative categories like politics and TV shows.
When we take a closer look, the site looks somewhat familiar and highly resembles the appearance of famous Betfair–this is why so many experts recommend it in its place.
But their biggest difference in terms of odds and rates is that Matchbook boasts lower commision fees compared to Betfair and perhaps Ladbrokes.
On the downside, the platform is not monetised nor available for the French, Spanish, Belgian, and Italian Market.
Existing welcome specials
£500 worth cash returns for newcomer clients and no commission charged in horse racing.
Newcomers that open a new user account and enter the coupon code CASHMATCH can reap £50 cash returns during their initial 5 week stay as matchbook points. No commision charges also apply for horse races until 31/5/17. Furthermore:
The special only counts bets that are added between Sunday 00:01 and Wednesday 23:59 (BST time). This is applicable therefore for 6 consecutive days per week.
Stakes can be added in any odd levels.
Stakes added on Horse Ante picks are not counted for this offer
Special applies to only one single user/account/IP. Additional accounts of the same user won’t be counted.
You cannot use this special along with any other offer.
£30 welcome bonus upon registration
Even though Matchbook is not particularly famous for its great availability of bonuses, new sport customers can reap a 30-pound bonus following making a deposit. The bonus is split like that: £15 will be for a back stake and another £15 as lay bet.
The following T&Cs are also applicable:
Clients should sign-up first and add their first funds through a credit card. Any e-wallet funding methods or Skrill are not included in this special.
The two stakes (back bet and lay bet) should be originating from two different sport categories
Bonus special may need up to 48 hours to be placed in your wallet’s account
You need to rollover the funds 5x prior initiating withdrawal
Matchbook will impose a 1% commision rate per stake
Since December 2014, Irish and UK players have been charged a 1.5% fee.
The bonus doesn’t hold much value if you ask us but try using it with two stakes to get a better glimpse of its value.
No extra specials are available for new or old clients to this moment. Because the operator works with low commission charges, this explains why there are not so many specials. Keep tabs on their official site for anything new or in store regarding specials. Also don’t forget that specials are only valid for certain timeframes and then they expire so make sure you take advantage of these fast.
Even though Matchbook doesn’t accept a wide plethora of funding options, they still support all the common ones such as:
- Visa/Visa Electron/MasterCard
Any funding methods are handled in just a few seconds or same-day at least. Bank transactions though may require up to 5 days to be completed. E-wallets also require usually 2 bank days to be finished. Should you have any question or issue about funding your account or any other query, you can communicate with their team through live chat and/or e-mail message from 9-3 p.m. Sadly, they don’t offer any 24-hour support service. View first their detailed FAQs section for answers to common queries prior you reach them out.
There is no cashier feature on the platform and in a few sports categories, withdrawal charged may be imposed. Clients will also have to use their added funds within a certain timeframe or else they may be subject to withdrawal charges. We currently don’t know exactly the amount of these charges.
Now, the good thing is that the operator currently supports 3 common currencies featuring GBP, EUR, USD, and HKD. Currency conversion will be set-up when requesting cash outs.
Our final review
Matchbooks low commision fees is one of their biggest strengths and they really back-up their promise. Another thing that we like is unlike others, they don’t impose any unheard of or struct restrictions to user accounts that yield the most profits.
The site overall is a breeze to browse through and it’s not bombarded with too many pops ups and ads like the rest of its kind. The navigation makes it easy to find exactly what you are looking for instantly. Their layout and appearance is definitely simple and functional.
Now when it comes to rollover requirements, these fall below the normal level you would expect with other sites. No players bets opposite the house and so the rollover limits are kept at a minimal level. And if you are a minor punter, it doesn’t take much to get your stake matched. Major gamblers though may experience a few problems when handling 4-5 figure amounts. The stake matched also depends on the market chosen.
In conventional Europe sport markets like for example Horse Racing and football, there are higher chances to get your stake matched. On the other hand, in lesser used markets like rugby or cricket, the chances of your stake getting matched are obviously less.
Perhaps their biggest issue that makes them fall somehow behind their main competitor Betfair is their liquidity issue. And another small problem that doesn’t help is that they don’t currently offer a 24-hour customer service and many complain that their queries are not addressed promptly.
